I wish Apple just forked the OS X to two branches:

  1. OS X Pro for people who actually have to use OS X day-in-day-out for productive hc work. And Apple should fix the glaring bugs for this (incl. spotlight, RAID array support, video card libraries, etc)

  2. OS X Consumer for people who want to facebook, tweet, click and pin-it. Doesn’t really matter if they don’t even fix the bugs, just add more features from iOS and make it “cool”.

Mac App Store Shopping Spree

Bought some new tools for my menubar.

  • Twitteriffic (the free app from Twitter.com lacks a menubar-only mode)
  • CodeBox (the old Snippet app from fuelcollective stopped working)
  • ColorChooser (nicer picker, replaced Pochade from fuelcollective)
  • Time Sink (tracks how i spent my time in the apps that i use daily)

I am really happy that i found these.

Good Bye, FuelCollective

So yeah.. i removed two FuelCollective apps. To be honest, they were really awesome when they came out. I was one of the very first to buy, but in the past 1-2 years they just gave me too much trouble.

Pochade was always very unstable: the mainwindow sometimes stopped working or the shortcut was inactive or it didn’t launch at all. At one point their update killed it entirely so i had to rollback manually and skip versions for some time… to name a few. And all that for a tiny menubar app that picks colors. No, thank you.

I am a bit sad to let Snippet app go, tho. Although it hardly got some love (i think the last working version still had Mobile.me support) in terms of updates and new features, it was at least somewhat reliable. In ML this app just refuses to work and was renamed to Kousek2.. or something else happend.. again: too much trouble, won’t buy twice.

There are some nice open source face detection libraries out there, sadly most of them only support the detection itself but and face recognition (i.e. giving a unique id to each detected face) is not so wide spread.

I found two different open source versions that seem to be widely used and an…

Saw this at a Japanese Market in San Francisco. I was left with no choice but to try it. It was yummy and effective, had me energized the whole day!

It’s Donkey Kong, no one can say no to that!

if you like infographics… Not really my format of choice. Also, don’t expect something groundbreaking. Of course PHP is huge and has the most job offers and Ruby not many talk about anymore (since community is small and tech). Of course PHP has most everything (accessible, mature, everyone and their grandson do it).

But yeah.. It’s an infographic!
